Lebendig - (leben digital) 2010

Für die Installation „Lebendig“ im Klagenfurter Dom habe ich die barocke Hülle des Kirchenraumes in der zentralen Blickachse zum Altar und Tabernakel hin geöffnet, indem ich das Altarbild durch eine scheinbar minimalistische, monochrom (blut- oder kirchen)rot strahlende Fläche aus mehreren Rasterschichten ersetzte.

Damit habe ich metaphorisch das Herz der Kirche freigelegt, oder genauer, deren Herzklappe: eine riesige, digital anmutende Projektionsfläche.

Durch einen verdeckt hinter der Tabernakelkuppel angebrachten Elektromotor wurde diese Membran in pulsierende Schwingung gebracht. Dadurch verliefen die Moirézeichnungen scheinbar vom Kreuz des Tabernakels ausgehend in alle Richtungen über die fast 7 x 4 m große Farbfläche - das neue Herzstück des Doms begann zu pulsieren, wurde lebendig - leben digital.

For the insallation “Lebendig” in the Klagenfurter Dom, I opened the the baroque shell of the church space's central visual axis of the altar and tabernacle by substituting the altarpiece with an apparently minimalistic, monochrome (blood or church)red shiny surface made of three layered grids.

Through this I have metaphorically opened the church's heart, or to be more precise, it's heart valve: a giant digital looking projection.

Through an electronic motor hidden behind the tabernacle dome, this membrane was brought into pulsating vibrations. This made the moire drawings appear to be moving out and away from the tabernacle in all directions across the nearly 7 x 4 m color surface- the new heart of the Dom began to pulse, it became alive - life digital.
