Video Wall - Testbild

Das „Video Wall-Testbild“ bedeutete nach einigen Jahren der Hinwendung zu den ersten „Soul Source Records“ meinen Wiedereinstieg in die Analyse und analog-malerische Verarbeitung digitaler Bildsprache und -Produktion.

Nicht ohne Grund: Die Bedingungen von Videokunst (vor allem deren Rezeption) hatten sich in wenigen Jahren drastisch verändert: weg vom einengenden Monitor hin zum überdimensionalen Videobeam.

Diese Veränderung führte mich vom gekrümmten Tafelbild etwa der BILDschirme hin zur großflächigen Wandarbeit.

Als ersten öffentlichen Test der neuen Arbeitsgruppe habe ich eine viel zu dominante Stellwand der „Galerie Freihausgasse“ in Villach zum Bildobjekt gemacht, und mit Schichten von Farbrastern überzogen. Durch die verschiedenartigen, changierenden Farben, Strukturen und optische Tiefen wurde der statische Wandblock förmlich in Stücke, und seine Fläche in Farbräume zerlegt.

Die „Video Wall“ bestand den Test, bald folgten die „Intro-Projektionen“.

Following several years of dedication to the first “Soul Source Records”, the “Video Wall-Test Pattern” represents my return to the analysis and the analog-painting manipulation of digital pictorial language and production.

Not without reason: The conditions of video art (in particular its reception) had made drastic changes in the span of a few years; away from a restrictive monitor toward an over-sized video beam.

This shift led me from the curved panel painting of the screen, for instance, to expansive mural painting.

As a first public test for the new working group, I converted the all-too dominant partition wall of the “Freihausgasse Gallery” in Villach into the subject of the work, and overlaid it with layers of colored rasters. Through the multifaceted, shifting colors, structures and optical depths, the static wall was broken up formally into pieces and its surfaces into colored spaces.

The “Video Wall” passed the test, and was soon followed by the “Intro-Projections”.
